Letter from W.J. Davis of the National Society of Amalgamated Brassworkers and Metal Mechanics to Miss Smythe, the Birmingham and District local organiser for the National Federation of Women Workers dated 17 September 1908. Miss Smythe had begun to organise women brassworkers and had written to the Union for support. Davis's reply explains that his union would not support women doing 'men's work' and criticises Mary Macarthur's opposition to a resolution at the 1908 TUC Congress calling for legislation to prevent women's employment in certain metal trades.
