The main speaker is Peter Curran, West of England District Secretary of the Gasworkers' Union, who had successfully appealed against an earlier conviction for intimidation under the Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act 1875 during a strike at the Plymouth coal harbour. Joseph Goodman, secretary of the Liverpool Trades Council was also a speaker.
