Equal Pay for Similar Duties Conference 1918

Besides massive recruitment of women to work in war industries during the First World War, the Government employed 150,000 extra women clerical workers in the civil service, Post Office and other areas. Not only were they not paid equal pay but, as temporary workers, they received lower wages than permanent women workers and were easy to dismiss. The National Union of Clerks maintained its pre-war equal pay policy and organised this conference in 1918.
