Paul Valentine is currently the Chair of PCS Southbank, and the Young Members Councillor on Equity. He trained as an actor. He was elected onto the Young Members Committee as Vice-Chair, then as Young Members Councillor on Equity's main governing body. As well as acting Paul works front of house at Southbank Centre. In his interview Paul describes all this work and how he has been instrumental in changing the work-practices at both branches of Equity and PCS and been very successful at recruiting, especially young members. He has recently been successfully involved in establishing an Equity Fringe contract with a theatre company for a tour. He describes the issues that he sees as important to young workers, low pay, mental health and the environment. He also describes the impact of Covid-19 on his working and trade union life.

In his clip Paul talks about touring as an actor and the low, inconsistent and unpredictability of pay for many actors. He describes his recent role of himself and Equity in getting the theatre company he was working with onto an Equity Fringe agreement in a move of collective action supported by the union that could be rolled out to many other members in theatre companies.
