In January 1986, the News International Group owned by Rupert Murdoch, sacked 5,500 workers for refusing to sign new working arrangements which included moving his printing works from Fleet Street to Wapping in East London. This poster shows Eric Butler, who was sacked after 16 years as a journalist on 'The Sun' newspaper. The print unions called for a boycott of 'The Sun', 'News of the World', 'The Times' and 'The Sunday Times'. The dispute went on for over a year and there were several violent confrontations with police on the picket line. The unions finally withdrew from the dispute in February 1987.
