Leaflet designed by Ken Sprague and produced by the Union of Post Office Workers during the first full national strike of in the history of the British Post Office January 20 to March 7, 1971. Most postal services came to a complete halt, but a range of officially licenced and unlicenced private posts operated during the strike. The Union had submitted a claim for a minimum £3 a week rise or 15-20%, but were offered 8%. However, after seven weeks of strike, the Union was unable to fund the large number of "hardship payments" to low paid workers among the 200,000 on strike and the General Secretary, Tom Jackson, had recommended his members to return to work. By the time the settlement was announced on 4 March, the management offer was increased to 9% with conditions attached.
