During the 1980s, the National Pensioners' Convention organised an annual Pensioners' Action Day. This photograph from 25 September 1985 shows pensioners campaigning for free travel passes for elderly, blind and disabled people to continue after the abolition of the Greater London Council in April 1986. Concessionary travel for Londoners started as free bus travel in 1973, which was extended to London Underground by the GLC in the 1980s. Following the abolition of the GLC the Freedom Pass became administered by London Councils.
