The Centre 42 group of artists, writers, actors and musicians took their name from Resolution 42 passed at the 1960 TUC Congress, which acknowledged the importance of the arts in the community and urged unions to participate in cultural activities. The group, with Arnold Wesker as director 1961-1970, helped to organise a series of local trade union festivals including this one at Nottingham in 1962. This photo shows young people listening to the FortyTwo Jazz Orchestra.
